This week at SLC Education Resource Committee, Councillors were updated on the Resources response to COVID-19 in line with the Government guidelines and recent changes since the return of online learning.

East Kilbride Conservative Cllr Ian Harrow commented, “It has been a remarkable collaborative effort by schools senior management, teachers and council officers to implement the recent government guidelines announced at short notice during the Christmas holidays. 

“I am pleased to see the council act so effectively during these difficult times to ensure families wherever there is a need, are provided with appropriate devices to allow children to access online learning. Teachers in conjunction with Parents and Pupils have done an excellent job in maintaining a pattern of learning.”

The Education Committee agreed to give approval for the council to purchase the building of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in East Kilbride, three years before the end of the lease. This approval includes investment to upgrade the building with a new roof, external walls and windows. This will further enhance the appearance of the school and make the building more energy efficient. Approval for the funding is expected to be granted by the Executive Committee with work likely to commence in the summer of 2022. 

Cllr Ian Harrow commented on the decision, “This is a good investment for the council and with proper maintenance could be utilised for many years. 

“More importantly this will benefit the pupils of Our Lady of Lourdes as their learning environment is conducive to achieving the high standard that many pupils across South Lanarkshire have benefited from over many years.”
