Councillor Martin Hose was delighted to present a Volunteer of the Year Award to Gordon Lindsay of Hamilton Rugby Club.
The Hamilton Sports Council prize recognised Mr Lindsay’s work with the club’s Ladies’ team as well as its Tartan Touch programme, which offers men and women the chance to play a simple, non-contact and social version of the game.
Cllr Hose, who represents Hamilton North and East, said: “No one could doubt how much our local volunteers mean to sports clubs and the wider community.
“They play an absolutely vital role and it’s right that is recognised at the Hamilton Sports Council Awards.
“It was an honour to present the Adult Volunteer of the Year Award to Gordon, who clearly makes a massive difference at Hamilton Rugby Club.”
He continued: “It’s important we congratulate all the winners and nominees for a fantastic year of sport in our town, as well as those who organised this great event.
“Their efforts made the awards night a success. The excellent work presenting the Youth Awards section was especially noteworthy.”
In a post on the Hamilton Rugby Club website, www.hamiltonrugbyclub.co.uk, Mr Lindsay reacted to his award.
He said: "I am grateful to the club for putting me forward. I am only one of many great volunteers at the club so this really means a lot to me."
