HAMILTON West and Earnock’s Conservative councillor Mark McGeever visited a local club giving kids a fun-filled summer.
Primary school aged children from Hillhouse and surrounding communities were kept entertained by a superhero-themed week run by neighbourhood church group The Monday Club.
It is funded by the Harvest Christian Fellowship church, which is based within the ward.
The club is open to everyone in the community and helps parents to send their children somewhere fun without worrying about having to somehow find money they just don't have spare.
Councillor McGeever was invited to see its work by youth pastor Sammy Brown.
The visit was a chance for the newly-elected representative to hear from the staff, volunteers, children and parents about the issues they encounter – and to play some Frisbee with the kids.
He said: “The club provided the primary-age kids with fun activities and a filling lunch throughout the week, as well as handing out toys and other fun prizes at the end of the last day.
“From the delight on the youngsters' faces it was incredibly clear the team are providing a valuable service to local children and families.
“I understand this was all made possible by the generosity of church members, which is a great example of how community groups make a positive difference.
“As a councillor representing Hillhouse it was great to get along and meet those involved, and I’d like to thank Sammy, the other staff and volunteers for giving me such a warm welcome.”
