CONSERVATIVE representatives have welcomed news Biggar's bank branch has been saved from closure.
David Mundell MP and Clydesdale East councillors Eric Holford and Alex Allison all backed the community's campaign against the Royal Bank of Scotland's decision to pull out of the town.
Residents and businesses feared the loss of the branch would cause huge problems for those unable to drive long distances to other banks.
News RBS will maintain a presence in the town will be a huge relief.
Cllr Eric Holford said: "This is great news for Biggar.
"The pressure applied from all quarters has led the RBS to write to David Mundell today to confirm that all the hard work put in to campaigning on this issue by the whole community has paid off.
"I remember being out there on a bitterly cold day last winter. I am so pleased to see it was worth it."
