VETERANS applying for work with South Lanarkshire Council are set to benefit from a guaranteed interview scheme.

Councillor Mark McGeever proposed the new policy at December's meeting of the authority. The Conservatives secured cross-party support and the motion was unanimously approved.

It will see South Lanarkshire Council lead the way in Scotland and serve as an example to other public sector employers.

Officers are now drafting a specific new policy for the approval of councillors in May or June.
